NOTICE OF EXAMINATION FOR PATROL OFFICER FOR THE CITY OF SPRING VALLEY, ILLINOIS

There will be an open competitive examination for new applicants for the Police Department of the City of Spring Valley on May 25, 2024, at the hour of 10:00 a.m. at the Spring Valley City Hall located at 215 N. Greenwood Street, Spring Valley, Illinois.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Under 35 years of age, unless exempt as provided by Illinois law
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Complete the written testing and oral examination requirements, as well as a physical aptitude test, a background investigation, a psychological examination, and a medical examination

Following the written examination, oral interviews will be scheduled on May 29th and May 30th

Applicants are posted in their respective positions in order of their performance as determined by examination and oral interview, with preference points added as required by Illinois law.

Application packets may be picked up from the Spring Valley Police Department, located at 215 N. Greenwood Street, Spring Valley, Illinois, beginning May 1, 2024. A non-refundable $20.00 testing fee must be paid at the time the application is returned. The completed application packet must be returned to the Spring Valley Police Department no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, by order of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

DOG TAG REMINDER

SPRING VALLEY CITY CLERK, BECKY HANSEN, WOULD LIKE TO REMIND ALL RESIDENTS THAT CITY DOG TAGS ARE DUE IN THE AMOUNT OF $5.00 AND PAYABLE BY MAY 1, 2023. TO AVOID PENALTY AS PROVIDED BY CITY ORDINANCE. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE RABIES TAG PROVIDED BY BUREAU COUNTY. FAILURE TO PURCHASE A DOG TAG BY MAY FIRST WILL RESULT IN A $10.00 PENALTY. ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS INFORMATION MAY BE DIRECTED TO THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE AT (815)664-4221.

Rental Property Registry

This notification is provided to residential rental property owners regarding recent changes to the City of Spring Valley Residential Rental Property Nuisance Prevention Ordinance. Ordinance No. 1842, passed on June 6th, 2022, amends certain sections of the city’s Residential Rental Property Nuisance Prevention Ordinance.
The office of the Spring Valley Building Inspector is hereby notifying you of these changes, which can be located on the City of Spring Valley website or copies may be obtained by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at 815-664-4221.

The office of the Spring Valley Building Inspector will be performing inspections of every residential rental property within the corporate limits of the City of Spring Valley. Rental property owners shall be aware of the following, in addition to the ordinances and related documents provided on the city’s website:

  • A copy of the rental property inspection checklist has been included for your use to ensure compliance prior to the inspection date.
  • Each property will be given a 90-day compliance period starting from the date of this letter. During this time frame the city expects each landlord to ensure compliance with the city ordinances and inspection checklist. Mandatory inspections will be performed starting on October 5th, 2022.
  • All rental properties, regardless of tenancy, will be subject to inspection.
  • The time for registering rental properties in calendar year 2022 has been extended. All rental properties must be registered with the City Clerk’s office on or before August 1st, 2022. Those that have registered for the 2022 calendar year must re-register; any 2022 payments previously submitted will be applied to the amended registration fees.

Water Meter Replacement

The city is in the process of changing out all water meters to updated auto read meters. Please call City Hall at 815.664.4221 between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment to install your new meter. Please make sure inside water meter is accessible.

Burning Hours

Burning is permitted, on Mondays through Saturdays, and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. between October 1st and May 1st of each year.

No burning is allowed on Sundays from May 1st to October 1st.

Burning of building & construction materials is NOT allowed.

No leaf burning is allowed on city streets and sidewalks; except on brick streets with such burning limited to waste generated by the lot immediately adjacent to the city street. Burning of leaves is allowed on private property with supervision present until the fire is extinguished.

No Burning allowed on any days that Hall High School has a home football game.
